Bio

In May of 2009, Mark, Corey, Todd and Aaron hosted a jam at The Mainliner Pub as 'Be Sound', and it didn't take long for these four MAD MEN to get locked away by the Evil Dr Hole Sniffer in his Insane Asylum. During their stay in Fifth North, they were forced to listen to country music and dubstep. How did they escape? Watch The Straight Jacket Webisodes. They continued to mold polular songs in a style ALL THEIR OWN. Since the bands inception, they have performed over 400 shows, and they have helped out thier home town of Medicine Hat by performing for many charitable events as recent as Quonset Days 2019 and dating back to the 2010 Flood Relief with Corb Lund. In the early stages of 2018, Dr Hole Sniffer released Mark from the Asylum claiming that he was sane. TSJ's returned on August 4, 2018 at the Historic Royal Hotel with the debut of thier new drummer, Gary, and Insanity ensued.

On a serious side, the band takes mental health very seriously. We encourage everyone to share their feelings and seek an open ear.

On October 17, 2019, our friend and lead guitarist Corey Beierbach was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme, a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer. He had emergency brain surgery to remove a large portion of one of three tumors. With the reality setting in, all Corey could think of was his family, not himself. He has received a lot of support from the fans of the band, and the generousity of strangers. He was truely touched by this and he wondered how he could pay it foreward to his community.

The band got together with his closest friends and family and we devised a plan that would give Corey a night to remember, a beautiful stage to play and above all, a tool to help pay it foreward and Rock Cancer. TSJ's are good at planning things. They had to escape the Asylum so many times! But an event of this scale takes more than ideas. We got help from many local businesses and thanks to 105.3 ROCK and Progressions Music Academy, we will be making this plan happen!

On January 24, 2020 The Straight Jackets and 12 other Local Bands put on a SOLD OUT benefit fundraiser concert to raise money for The Margery E. Yuill Cancer Centre and Corey's Trust Fund. We raised awareness, money and gave Corey a night to remember. There was a Silent Auction on site as well as live music in the Ballroom. We hope you had fun and we are announcing the amount of money raised on Tuesday, February 4th, 2020 at the Margery E Yuill Cancer Centre..
